I figured a "world map" could be very useful. Size of objects as well as distances are plain wrong of course, but it does its job ;)

Really cool map!! keeps things in context and daang didnt know they were that far apart. Makes total sense actually, life would be prettt far away even with advanced travel I presume!

edit: Actually now that I read Dizzaster's comment, 21 light years is definitely relatively close!

Thanks :D

When doing research on potentially habitable exoplanets, to get a sense for distances, I found it varied a lot, and decided to go for the most realistic solution, the rather "close" ones.

..which are still very far away. The first travels took like forever (generations), but now, with those interstellar highways established ("wormholes"), it takes just some days.

Love when people make maps! Makes the world or universe feel more alive :)

@Amalockh1
I agree, I had the map sketched out from very early on, it's easier to keep writing consistent that way (like, how many wormholes do I need to draw in this planet's orbit again?).

@Jason

Thanks :))

I noticed I really like it when others make maps for their stories, so I figured it would be a good idea to make one myself too. You're right, it does make the world feel more real.

So all within 24 ly this is a very small part of the Galaxy. How much of the rest of the galaxy has been explored?

A very small part, the very very most of the galaxy is still completely unexplored.

There's one more visited planet, but that one got abandoned for reasons to be mentioned sometime later in the story, but yes, also that one was within this pretty much short range.

Hmmm... with two K-type stars and an M-type star, the Groolar system is going to be a bit unstable, with planet Groolar at serious risk of falling into one of suns, being thrown out of orbit, or just leaving the habitable zone for too long a period... actually, that could explain a lot of things!

Planetary surveyors, long ago: This system, ED-01450-MKK, is not suitable for habitation, as the multiple stars make the planetary orbits unstable-

Groolar Godforsaken: Wimps! I claim this planet for myself and my outlaw buddies, and I name it GROOLAR, after myself! Who cares about your unstable orbits?? We live on the edge!! Multi-sun sunsets rule - boring geeks like you drool!!! HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!

Interplanetary authorities: ...fine. (mutter) Best place for em...

---

Groolar astronomer: ...t-the fact is, great leader, that Groolar will be projected into our largest star in... 51 years, 438 days, 8 hours- aaaaghk...!

Kobolt: *grab* *mindread* ...It's the truth. That's very annoying. We'll have to move to the nearest system and take over there. And the nearest system *mindread* is Kordinar.

Ferros: Huh... Kordinar's boring. Nice beer, though.

Kobolt: But right now, I'm going to learn more about orbital mechanics because it is very important and, also, interesting. *mindread*

Groolar astronomer: *gibber* *whimper*

>:=)>

Lol that would indeed explain a whole lot xD
and it *would* fit the Groolar craziness just perfectly right?

..and,
after all, there *is* the apocalypse coming soon right?

Kobolt's invasion plans going wrong? And then, when I can't have your planets, nobody else should either? And then the big kaboooooom. ..?

:P

Ah, that's cool! I don't know why, I thought they had only one Sun for all the planets (which doesn't make sense, because the planets are distant from each other, and they're not dark places XD.). Now it's clear!

They managed two planets within one system, the original one and then a terraformed one. But that's pretty much it, all the others lie too far outside of the habitable zone.

I've always got a soft spot for maps, so this was bound to happen. (actually, the map can also be seen in-comic here and there, but in a rather stylistic way, not very accurate, as in - even less accurate than this one, and maybe not recognizable as a map either).

Well, what is it like where you live? what kind of sun? how long is a day-night cycle? the orbital period? do you got seasons? with that information I may be able to put you on the map.

Well this is a really cool map, it gives a general idea of how the planets exist. I wonder if you must go through the hub station if you are moving from the twin planets across to the other two

Yes, I figured it was necessary or at least very helpful.

That's right, if you travel by the space highways you must go through the hub station when moving from the twin planets to the others, the only direct route is between Groolar and Kordinar. Of course, you can travel outside of the highways too, but that would take like forever, better start when you're still pretty young ;)

This is a really cool map, although I wonder if the system isn't a bit unstable... It seems to me that at least a couple of planets may collide each other?

So *that* is what the apocalypse will be about ;P

But no, they're not going to collide, it's just looks like that, because of the map inaccuracy when it comes to real distances.
Each planet is peacefully orbiting its own sun,
